After various people told me I should try sketch cards, and others told me I should try colouring pencils, I decided to be lazy and combine the two. Here's the result - Han Solo in the carbon-freezing chamber. I picked Han because he's easy to draw.
I'd appreciate critique and feedback on this one... it's my first try, and I want to learn how to do these properly!
Fun fact: I realised that the colouring pencils I used for this are realy old... my godmother gave them to me when I was about seven or eight! That should tell you how often I do this.
Media: Faber-Castell colouring pencils on 2.5" x 3.5" Bristol paper. Time: 1 1/2 hours. Reference: Still from The Empire Strikes Back.
The colors really set this piece off for me : ) His right on, on our left, looks a little wonky to me. I'm not sure if it's the size or something with the color. I feel like maybe it should be little darker as that side of his face is in the shadow. It is inspiring me to try some color pencils though! I'm also now very interested in sketch cards. Amazon here I come.
Yeah, I think I messed up the eyes.. they're too big, I reckon. Thank you, though! I'm glad it inspired you. Coloured pencils are quite fun to use I've never gotten into trading cards, but they're a challenge to draw for sure!
nice...lovely colors...I'm sure with practice you'll be really brilliant with colored pencils...I'd like to see you revisit this image in a year or so to see the improvement.
Aah, isn't it nice to blend with pencils? Have to think which specific colours will bring out the perfect blend and all (unless you have 100 different colours, but what's the fun in that?)..
It's a challenge, for sure! I only used 12 pencils for this one, actually, yeah. It's fun to blend them together - difficult though. I think I need more practice.
